The Partnership for
the Delaware Estuary

Connecting people, science, and nature for a healthy Delaware River and Bay.

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (PDE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Delaware Estuary – an essential source of clean drinking water for millions of people and the foundation of a thriving regional economy that generates more than $12 billion each year.

Our organization was established in 1996 and is one of 28 National Estuary Programs designated by Congress. Estuary programs exist throughout the coastal United States to improve the health of estuaries.

As the only organization focused on the tidal Delaware River—from the head of tide in Trenton to the mouth of the Bay at the Atlantic Ocean—we unite communities, businesses, and governments to safeguard this vital resource. Our team works hands-on in marshes and waterways to make new scientific discoveries and advance on-the-ground restoration.

We lead collaborative, science-based projects that:

  • Prevent pollution
  • Protect and restore wetlands
  • Rebuild shellfish populations
  • Strengthen the long-term health of rivers, creeks, and bays

We also foster stewardship through festivals, workshops, river cleanups, and community events that inspire people to care for their local waterways.

At PDE, there’s no marsh we won’t explore and no depth we won’t dive to expand understanding of the Delaware Estuary.
