Delaware Estuary Science & Environmental Summit ‘09

____________________

"...[I] was very impressed with [the] diversity of presentations and attendees."
____________________

The Delaware Estuary Science and Environmental Summit is scheduled for January 11-14, 2009, at the Grand Hotel in Cape May, New Jersey. This will be the third bienniel science conference convened by the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.

Building on the themes of the 2005 science conference ("Linking Science and Management") and the 2007 science conference and environmental summit ("Setting Achievable Environmental Goals"), the theme of the 2009 meeting will be "Working Toward a Healthy, Sustainable Environment in Tomorrow's Delaware Estuary."

Initial planning is now underway at the Partnership. Like the 2007 meeting, we will again strive to bring together environmental scientists, managers, and practioners over a three-to-four day span in a retreat-like atmosphere. The Partnership and many collaborating entities believe this conference fills an important niche whereby individuals and groups that rarely intersect are afforted an opportunity to exchange information and ideas in the context of the Delaware Estuary. Meetings like this offer one way to advance an ecosystem-based, integrative approach to managing, monitoring and restoring our regional environment.

Suggestions for speakers and session themes should be directed to Dr. Danielle Kreeger at DKreeger@DelawareEstuary.org.

____________________

"I enjoyed the conference thoroughly. I wish it could happen on an annual basis. "
____________________

The Partnership's last conference attracted almost 300 scientists, resource managers and environmentalists from throughout the tri-state region. Together, these participants engaged in more than 100 presentations, roundtable discussions, and regular and special-topic sessions. Most of the presentations that took place are still available for download below. For a summary of the 16 sessions, please click here. And for a session-by-session listing, please explore either the "Science Conference" or "Environmental Summit" tables.

Abstracts and contact information for most presenters is available in the 2007 event program (PDF file). And a proceedings document is available from the 2005 conference as well.

We here at the Partnership hope you will consider joining us in 2009 for what is sure to be another terrific opportunity to foster creative collaborations among diverse stakeholders. In the meantime, please feel free to leave your comments, concerns and feedback in our online discussion board. Or, to view photographs from our 2007 event, please click here.
