Through this voluntary, non-regulatory
program, business owners and managers can learn ways to prevent
stormwater runoff pollution on their properties through the implementation of
responsible housekeeping practices.
Preventing stormwater runoff pollution is not complicated,
and it does not have to be costly. However, cleaning up water pollution
after it has occurred can be both difficult and
expensive. This program guides the business owner or manager
through easy-to-implement pollution control measures that
can prevent stormwater runoff pollution before it occurs.
By visiting and evaluating sites, your staff and/or volunteers
will be trained to make suggestions on how to improve various
housekeeping practices, if needed. Furthermore, by signing a pledge, the
business owner or manager agrees to implement and maintain best
management practices on premises. A decal is then placed in
the window showing customers and employees that the business
is concerned about the environment, and a framed certificate of participation is also available for display.
The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary can provide you
with copies of the "Clean Water Partners Handbook," decals and certificates,
as well as technical support to enable you to implement the
"Clean Water Partners" program.
